Former President Joe Crowley receives Alumni Hancher-Finkbine Medallion for leadership

Crowley honored with prestigious award from alma mater, University of Iowa, for leadership, learning and loyalty

Former President Joe Crowley receives award for leadership.

Former University of Nevada, Reno President Joe Crowley was awarded the Alumni Hancher-Finkbine Medallion from the University of Iowa on Tuesday, April 10.

After receiving his bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Iowa in 1959, Crowley went on to receive his doctorate degree in political science from the University of Washington. After serving as a professor, he became president of the University of Nevada, Reno in 1978 and served until 2001.

The award, presented to Crowley during the 95th Anniversary Finkbine Dinner, recognizes his "outstanding leadership, learning and loyalty."

As an active member of his alma mater in the University of Iowa Department of Political Science, Crowley helped formulate the ideas that led to the establishment of the department's Alumni Advisor Board. He has also received the University of Iowa's Distinguished Alumni Award for Achievement.
