Sean McGoldrick will join the University of Nevada, Reno as associate vice president for facilities services. McGoldrick, whose facilities experience spans more than 30 years, will oversee the organizational unit responsible for the operation and maintenance of the physical resources and environments of the University as well as providing planning, design and construction services, engineering and energy management support, parking and transportation and real estate/rental property services.

“We are pleased, following a comprehensive national search, to announce Sean’s selection for the position and anticipate that he will join us on Aug. 15,” said University Vice President Administration and Finance Ron Zurek. “We would also like to thank John Walsh for serving as the interim Facilities Services AVP since July 2010. John is to be commended for his outstanding performance in managing numerous fiscal and operating challenges during the past year.”

For the past 13 years, McGoldrick’s facilities management experience has been in higher education. McGoldrick comes to the University of Nevada, Reno from Minnesota State University where he served as the assistant vice president for facilities management. During his career, he has held several senior-level facilities-services positions and has successfully administered the design and construction of capital projects, physical plant, utilities, architectural services, real estate management, campus sustainability and environmental health and safety programs, and facilities administrative services.

McGoldrick indicated that his initial plans are essentially threefold: first and foremost, meeting the Facilities Services staff to get a better sense of the culture and climate within the department. Secondly, to meet with the leadership on campus to include deans, vice presidents, student leadership and various directors to get a sense of what the institutions’ customers value about the services the department provides to them, and finally, to "listen" before his team develops a strategy for the road ahead.

“My family and I are very excited about the move to Reno,” McGoldrick said. “The area has all the things we are looking for, including a world-class university, great climate, terrific high schools and great biking, fishing, snow skiing and golfing.”
