‘Milky Way’ presentation highlights Global Astronomy Month

Sierra star guide and poet Tony Berendsen will be the keynote presenter on Wednesday, April 14 at the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, as part of April’s Global Astronomy Month.

Berendsen will debut his new poem, “The Milky Way,” and discuss what is known about the home galaxy in an event beginning at 7 p.m. Telescope viewing will also be provided by Tahoe Star Tours and Celestron Telescopes, weather permitting.

The event, which is open to adults and children of all ages, has a $10 admission. Proceeds will go to support Planetarium programs.

Berendsen is an award-winning amateur astronomer, poet and president of the Northern Nevada Science Coalition. He has specialized in astronomy outreach and has conducted lively stargazing sessions of the Sierra sky for the past 15 years. He is past president for the Astronomical Society of Nevada.
