Regents name Klaich to succeed Rogers as NSHE Chancellor

The Nevada Board of Regents today unanimously appointed Daniel Klaich to serve as the tenth chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education. As chancellor, he will be responsible for overseeing Nevada's only public higher education system.

"Dan brings a wealth of administrative, legislative, and leadership experience to the System," said Michael Wixom, Board of Regents chair. "He is the right leader at the right time to guide the NSHE through budget challenges and the next chapter in moving Nevada's education system forward."

Klaich will manage a system that has more than 108,000 students, 14,200 faculty and staff, and an annual budget of $1.59 billion. The system encompasses a wide range of educational institutions including four community colleges, a state college, two research universities and an environmental research institute.

Klaich joined the Chancellor's Office in October 2004 and currently serves as the executive vice chancellor and chief operating officer of the NSHE.

He will assume the position of chancellor on July 1. As chancellor, he will receive an annual salary of $303,000 with a host account of $10,000, automobile allowance of $8,000 and a housing allowance of $24,000.

Klaich is an attorney, admitted to the bar in Nevada and California and was in private practice for almost 30 years prior to joining the NSHE.

He is a native Nevadan and a 1972 graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law in 1975, and in 1978 received a Master in Taxation from New York University.

Klaich served on the Board of Regents of the NSHE from 1983 to 1997, including two terms as Chairman of the Board.

He is married to the former Denise Woods (University of Nevada, Reno 1973). They have four children and six grandchildren.
