New sexual assault prevention initiative announced

April 6, 2009
By Staff Report

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to introduce the new on-campus Personal Safety and Sexual Assault Prevention Program (psASAP) that is based out of the University's Counseling Services in conjunction with a variety of other campus and community organizations, including the University Police Services, the Crisis Call Center, Reno PD Victim Services Units, Campus Escort Services, the Student Health Center and the Office of Student Conduct.

As you may know, it has been found that 1 in 4 women will experience a rape or attempted rape in their lifetime, with college-age women at highest risk for sexual assault.

In an effort to educate and protect Nevada students, psASAP is rolling out a campus-wide sexual assault prevention initiative. As part of this initiative, we would like to give a sexual assault prevention presentation in your classroom. Presentations can range from 15-50 minutes, depending on what works best for you and your schedule.

Please help us in this important initiative by calling (775) 682-9662 or e-mailing hlabash@unr.edu to arrange a presentation.

We hope to hear from you soon. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need more information.
