Averill Duane Kelley’s studies haven’t been about recognition.
That’s why the senior education major from Las Vegas, Nev., was surprised to learn he was one of 22 students from the University to be named to the prestigious Who’s Who Among Students.
“When I first heard I was nominated for the award, I was in complete shock,” said Kelley, who hopes to become a social studies teacher. “My involvement at Nevada is not for any recognition, but I always enjoyed being active in school. I am honored and I thank God some could see me worthy of this award.”
Kelley’s ultimate goal is to pursue his master’s and doctorate degrees in education.
“I do not believe that I would have had a major achievement at the University if it was not for everyone else here at Nevada who have helped me and encouraged me on the way” he said.
The Who’s Who Among Students award is presented by individual universities. Nominations are given to young people who enhance the positive image of American youth through serving the community and their school.
