Update on Parking and New Parking Permit Fees

As the Parking and Transportation Services Department is a self-funded operation, fee increases are necessary to cover annual inflationary increases as well as new and expanded services. For example, in response to campus concerns for increased safety, the Parking and Traffic Board, comprised of students, faculty, and staff, has recommended that campus shuttle services be extended to at least 10:00 p.m. Additionally, the Parking and Transportation Services Department anticipates helping to fund a new student cadet program, reporting to the Police Department, that will provide increased security and walking escorts within parking facilities during evening hours.

The original 2001 financing plan for the West Stadium Parking Complex called for that facility to have a “Silver” parking zone designation. For the past several years the Parking and Traffic Board voted to use available one-time funds from campus construction projects to augment the budget so the Silver designation could be postponed until the new Joe Crowley Student Union and the Mathewson IGT Knowledge Center were completed. This fall, both facilities will be open and the West Stadium Parking Complex will now need to convert to the Silver parking zone designation as originally planned.

The Parking Permit fees for the 2008/09 school year will be:

  • Silver and Yellow: $375 per year or $31.25 per month
  • Green: $205 per year or $17.08 per month
  • Blue: $100 per year or $8.33 per month
  • Motorcycle: $40 per year
  • Circus-Circus permits: free (with free transportation via Sierra Spirit)
  • RTC Ride Bus Pass: $120 for Fall and Spring; $90 for the summer
  • RTC Intercity (Carson to Reno): $220 for Fall and Spring; $155 for the summer

Parking permit renewal forms will be mailed out May 19, 2008 to those who are not currently enrolled in the continuous payroll deduction program.

Those who are enrolled in the payroll deduction program will not receive a renewal form in May. Instead, they will automatically receive their parking permit in August, for the parking area currently assigned. If you are enrolled in the payroll deduction program but you would like to change your parking area selection, please contact the parking office. A waiting list currently exists for most of the silver zones.
