Starting Feb. 7, students, faculty and staff have access to expanded transportation services, including extended hours, more vehicles and faster service.
Extended Shuttle Hours
Beginning Feb. 7 and continuing through the remainder of the Spring 2008 semester, the main campus shuttle service will extend operations until 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Additional Shuttle Route
Also beginning Feb. 7 and continuing through the semester, a new shuttle route has been added to increase the overall capacity of campus transportation services during peak evening hours. A 15-passenger shuttle van will expand the current shuttle coverage area and begin service to residence halls and sorority and fraternity houses from 5 to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Late-Afternoon and Evening Parking Alternatives
Another new safety initiative in place through March 21 is the opportunity for parking permit holders to park after 3:30 p.m. at the following locations:
During spring break (March 22-30), construction of the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center will begin. The project will eliminate parking access to the Silver #8 zone and require those permit holders to park in the Silver #11 zone.
For more information, contact the Parking and Transportation Services Department at 784-4654.
Further Improvements to Escort Service
Due to an abundance of calls and increased demand, a second dispatcher has been added and the Associated Students of the University of Nevada will develop a Walking Escort Volunteer Program. For more information on these volunteer opportunities, contact Campus Escort Services at 742-6808.
Currently, the motorized escort service runs approximately one hour past the Joe Crowley Student Union’s operating hours. Rides are available from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday-Wednesday and until 3 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. The service is not offered when the campus is closed for legal holidays.
University Police Services encourages you to schedule a ride with Campus Escort Services by calling 742-6808. If callers ever experience a busy signal or answering machine, they are asked to be patient and call back as soon as possible.
University Police Services also provides around-the-clock safety escorts. Call the non-emergency dispatch line at 334-2677(COPS) and ask that an officer respond to your location.
