Nevada makes second NCAA trip in three years

The Nevada softball team received its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday and the Wolf Pack will take on Purdue at the UCLA Regional on Friday, May 16.

“This is a great place for us to play,” Nevada coach Michelle Gardner said. “A good portion of our team is from Southern California so we have a fan base there. It’s a good regional to be in and we are looking forward to playing Purdue.”

Nevada won the regular season title in the Western Athletic Conference and finished the season with a 42-16 record. Second-seeded Nevada and third seed Purdue join UCLA and Cal State Fullerton at the Regional location.

Nevada and Purdue will meet at 2:30 p.m. May 16, and the game will be televised by ESPNU. The Wolf Pack and Boilermakers have never met in softball.

Nevada has eight players on its roster from Southern California.

“This is like a dream for me personally, being able to go to Southern California for the regional,” senior second baseman Kristin Stith said.
