CFRC exhibit documents children's growth and education

The Child and Family Research Center hosted a reception for the "Children...Discover, Investigate, Learn" exhibit in the Reno-Tahoe International Airport Monday, August 6. The exhibit documents and presents the early learning of children in the CFRC program inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach developed in Italy.

Students assess community's need for nursing service

Orvis School of Nursing students recently concluded the first step of a nursing needs assessment of Washoe County and Carson City. Coordinator of the project and assistant professor, Deborah Shindell recognized the need for more nursing services and hopes the assessment will result in establishments of clinics in areas of high need.

The Orvis School of Nursing RN to BSN program orientation ushered in 20 new students Monday, August 27. The program allows licensed nurses with associate degrees to earn a bachelor of science degree through online classes and clinical projects with the community.

New travel policy clarified

This update replaces the two previous announcements regarding changes made by the Nevada State Legislature to the State of Nevada travel policy. Interim notifications were sent out in July and claims submitted under those regulations may have to be revised.

Marjanovic named interim soccer coach

Fourth-year assistant coach Antoinette Marjanovic has been named the interim head coach of the University of Nevada women's soccer program effective immediately, Wolf Pack Director of Athletics Cary Groth announced Tuesday afternoon.

Loomis to serve as School of Public Health director

Dana Loomis has a vision for the University's School of Public Health. After serving the University of North Carolina for 18 years, he decided to take the plunge and move to Nevada. Loomis has been with the School of Public Health since January.

Nevada drops season opener 3-0 to Pacific

The University of Nevada(0-1) dropped its season opener to Pacific(1-0) by scores of 30-19, 30-28, and 30-28 at the Virginia Street Gym in Reno, Nev. Friday night. After the season opener for both schools the Wolf Pack stand at 0-1 on the season while the Tigers are 1-0.

Many roads led to Lawlor Events Center Aug. 23 for the New Student Ceremony, as the University's 2,500 freshmen as well as other first-year students gathered for the eighth annual event. Everyone in attendance had a story behind why they were there. But perhaps the most poignant story belonged to keynote speaker, Debra Vigil, an associate professor of speech pathology and audiology in the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Five specialty surgeons join School of Medicine

Sweet Promised Land discussions to kick off Thursday

At his first town hall meeting with University faculty and staff last May, President Milt Glick invited faculty and staff to help launch a project intended to build esprit de corps among incoming freshman. His idea caught fire with faculty, staff, donors and the community, and within weeks, 124 individuals had volunteered to participate in the Class of 2011 Summer Scholars Program.

Med School receives $1 million for HIV prevention and care services

Echezona Ezenolue, M.D., M.P.H., a University of Nevada School of Medicine assistant professor of pediatrics and infectious disease specialist, received a $1 million Ryan White Title II grant from the State of Nevada to provide a comprehensive program of prevention and care services to HIV positive pregnant women, children and adolescents.

Board of Regents agree to raise GPA standard
