Schafer joins Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development

Steve Schafer joined University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) in August as the new state coordinator for 4-H Youth Development & Events.

Schafer said his career in 4-H brings him great joy and satisfaction. He welcomes the opportunity to provide the information, knowledge, skills and assistance to help others grow and develop.

Schafer attended Iowa State University, has a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from the University of Arizona, a master's degree in agricultural extension from Louisiana State University and a doctorate in education from the University of Wyoming. He has worked within Cooperative Extension for 28 years.  

During his Extension career, Schafer has served in numerous state and national positions including: county 4-H, agriculture and natural resources educator; county director; state 4-H specialist for livestock and horse projects; state 4-H specialist for curriculum; interim state 4-H program leader; Western Extension Leadership Development (WELD) administrative and teaching team member; and national chair of Cooperative Curriculum Committee.  He is currently serving as an initial member of the National 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl Contest Committee.
