Goin wins Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award

May 16, 2007

This annual award honors a faculty member who has significantly contributed to original research. The purpose of the award is to focus attention upon research, which is recognized as a crucial ingredient in the university's success.

Peter Goin is a Foundation Professor and has been in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Reno since 1984. He is internationally recognized for his powerful photographs dealing with the long-term impact of culture and technology on the environment.

His work integrates history, architecture, urban planning, and the social and political sciences with the environment. He has published 16 books, and 43 major collections have acquired his work. The Library of Congress alone owns 350 of his photographs.

Goin's exhibitions have appeared in innumerable topflight museums, and his internationally acclaimed book, "Nuclear Landscapes", has inspired many subsequent studies of the Nevada Nuclear Test Site.
