Thank you for visiting the Nevada Center for Ethics & Health Policy (NCEHP) website. As a University of Nevada, Reno statewide program, NCEHP is an educational resource to students, professionals and consumers about current issues ranging from pain management, embryonic stem cell research, genetics, organ donation, resource allocation, assisted suicide, ethical decision making, end of life care, and others.
The Nevada Center for Ethics & Health Policy sponsors the University's Health Care Ethics (HCE) program. Health care ethics issues increasingly make the news in Nevada and throughout the nation. The fields of health care, science, health administration, public health, education, business, law, and government are increasingly aware of and interested in health care ethics. Students engaged in this field of study graduate with expertise in the core competencies identified by the American Society for Bioethcs and Humanities: (1) ethical assessment skills, (2) process skills, and (3) interpersonal skills. The following are offered through the HCE academic program: ethics minor, graduate certificate in bioethics, public health ethics topics, medical ethics topics, and nursing ethics resources.
In addition, the Nevada Multicultural Coalition is a secondary organization of NCEHP located in Southern Nevada whose mission is to provide a forum for organizations and community leaders to improve access and education on end of life health care services for diverse multicultural communities.
The Gerontology Academic Program (GAP) and the Nevada Center for Ethics & Health Policy (NCEHP) have formed the SAGE Consortium. Even though GAP and NCEHP remain independent units within the university, the Sage Consortium creates the possibility of sharing resources such as support staff, faculty, and student ambassadors. This enables both units to be more productive and successful, and offers students more variety and depth in programming.
