  • Electrometallurgy;
  • Hydrometallurgy;
  • Pyrometallurgy;
  • Vacuum metallurgy;
  • Crystal growth;
  • Metals purification;
  • Tritium detection.

Research Experience

As a researcher at UNR for the past 7 years, I have worked as principal investigator on a DOE contract for development of an in situ tritium detector and on DOE research grants for tritium detection. I also worked on copper extraction from refractory ores, pressure leaching of gold from sulfide ores, and recovery of metal values from wastes. Prior to coming to UNR, I was a researcher for the U.S. Bureau of Mines for over 25 years. With the USBM, I worked on molten salt and aqueous electrolysis for recovery of metals, leaching of base and precious metals from ores and concentrates, vacuum distillation and zone refining for purification of metals and alloys, bulk single crystal growth, removal of metals from acid mine waters, and direct reduction of iron ore.
