Introduction

Restoration of lands that are affected by mining activities is necessary to protect the environment from the adverse effects caused by it. If the environment is protected it in turn helps humans, plant habitats, wildlife etc to survive thus creating an ecological balance. Most of the lands that are affected by mining are due to metals. Reclamation of these lands becomes imperative. The main aim of this website is to provide technological data on the restoration of abandoned mine sites.
The technology section deals with activities that may be involved in restoring a mine site to its original state before mining activities were initiated.

There are various methods by which these lands can be remediated. They are

Acid Drainage
This section deals with the active and passive treatment of acid mine drainage.

Water Source Control and Treatment
This section deals with the various methods that can be employed to prevent the contamination of groundwater from mine drainage

Waste Source Control and Treatment
This section deals with the various methods that can be employed to prevent the contamination of soil from hazardous wastes caused by mine drainage

Cyanide Treatment
This section deals with degradation, oxidation precipitation and biodegradation of cyanide formation due to mine drainage.

Waste Disposal and Consolidation of Multiple Facilities
This section deals with designed repository

Physical Stability
Deals with mass movement an erosion and sedimentation of soil

Topographic Reconstruction
Deals with the reconstruction of lands affected by mining, in order to restore the original shape of the land

Air
This section deals with the sources of fugitive dust and its control and scrubbers.

Prediction amd Monitoring
After reclamation efforts have been successfully completed, it is always important to keep track of the success of a project in eliminating acid formation and restoration of the land to mimic pre-mining conditions to post-mining conditions. Monitoring helps to identify where acid mine drainage is formed and also helps in identifying the onset of acid mine drainage formation.

There are no specific methods that can be employed to remediate a site because each site will have specific objectives and goals. The method of remediation depends on the type of disturbance and prevailing conditions of the site to be remediated.
