The U.S. chemicals industry is the world's largest. It accounts for more than 25% of U.S. manufacturing energy use. The Industries of the Future Chemicals R&D Partnership is designed to improve the economic, environmental and energy performance of the chemicals manufacturing industry through improvements in supply chain management, information systems, and manufacturing and operations. Key technological areas for improvement include chemical synthesis, bioprocesses and biotechnology, and materials science.
