Introduction

The Mining Life-Cycle Center at the Mackay school of Mines, University of Nevada , Reno hosted a Database Workshop on January 7th and 8th , 2002 for the Western Region Restoration of Abandoned Mine Sites ( RAMS) program administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of this Database Workshop is to discuss and define the approach that will be taken in the development and implementation of two information databases for the State of Nevada:

  • A GIS database for the collection and evaluation of site specific data from abandoned mine sites

  • A technology database for the summary and evaluation of appropriate technologies that can be used for abandoned mines.

This workshop of GIS and Technology Databases was organized in association with the State of Nevada Interagency Abandoned Mine Lands Environment Task Force (IAMLET) and the Acid Drainage Technology Initiative - Metal Mining Sector (ADTI-MMS).
