Introduction
The Mining Life-Cycle Center
at the Mackay school of Mines, University of Nevada , Reno hosted a
Database Workshop on January 7th and 8th , 2002 for the Western Region
Restoration of Abandoned Mine Sites ( RAMS) program administered by the
US Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of this Database Workshop is to
discuss and define the approach that will be taken in the development
and implementation of two information databases for the State of
Nevada:

A GIS database for the
collection and evaluation of site specific data from abandoned mine
sites
-
A technology database
for the summary and evaluation of appropriate technologies that can
be used for abandoned mines.
This workshop of GIS and Technology
Databases was organized in association with the State of Nevada
Interagency Abandoned Mine Lands Environment Task Force (IAMLET) and the
Acid Drainage Technology Initiative - Metal Mining Sector (ADTI-MMS).
