Albert Adu-Acheampong

Albert Adu-Acheampong studied at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Science and Technology) School of Mines, Tarkwa Ghana in West Africa gaining B. Sc. (Hons) in Mining Engineering in July 1997. Adu-Acheampong taught mathematics at Nsein Secondary School, Axim in Ghana between November 1997 and September 1998. As a result of the collaboration between Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited, Obuasi operations in Ghana and the Mining Engineering Department at the Mackay School of Mines, Adu-Acheampong started gathering data for his thesis between October and December 1998 before joining the Mining Engineering Department in Spring 1999. Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited underground operations at Obuasi, Ghana, frequently experience hanging wall graphitic shears in the stope, which mark the beginning of mineralization. The graphite shears have cohesion of about zero. Adu-Acheampong investigated "Stability of Open Stopes Intercepted by Graphitic Shears at Ashanti Goldfields Company Ltd., Obuasi operations in Ghana". He successfully defended his thesis in fall 2000 and he is of to work with Agapito Associates, Inc., Consulting Engineers at Grand Junction in Colorado.
