News >> Spring News Acid Drainage Technology Initiative-Metal Mining Sector(ADTI-MMS) Newsletter Spring 2001 General news: This newsletter will bring you up to speed on what ADTI-MMS has been up to recently. ADTI-MMS met in Reno in November after the GSA meeting and met in Denver in early March after the SME meeting. The items below are some of the projects ADTI-MMS has been working on. Website progress: ADTI-MMS currently has a website hosted by the Bureau of Land Management's Butte Field office. We are in the final stages of moving the website to the University of Nevada-Reno, which we hope will provide us with some additional flexibility, as we hope to use the website for review of draft documents. We will have news on the website changes in the very near future. Kim Lapakko has completed the ADTI-MMS annual report and it should be posted on the web soon. Workbook progress: We have made good progress on some of our workbooks! The Introductory Chapter and the Mitigation Chapter are both in draft form and ready for review. Progress continues to be made on several of the other workbooks. The standardization of the Meteoric Water Mobility Procedure (MWMP) is moving ahead through ASTM and the Prediction Committee is monitoring progress. Work was carried out in eight laboratories coordinated through the Nevada Mining Association and the solutions were assayed by the USGS, Denver, laboratory. Statistics are being reviewed by the ASTM E-01 Committee, where it will be balloted. In November, we added a Pit Lake Workgroup. Lisa Shevenell from the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology heads up this group and has distributed an annotated bibliography to the workgroup for comments and additions. Draft documents on pit lake sampling and classification are in progress. Funding: As usual we continue dialing for dollars. We have several irons in the fire including a grant proposal in to EPA, as well as continued funding possibilities with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, BLM, and possible coordination with the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) on Pit Lake issues. We are working with BLM on possible presentation of a revised Acid Rock Drainage satellite learning presentation, as well as possible evaluation of ARD treatment alternatives. Upcoming ADTI events:
