The Pit Lake Committee will be responsible for writing the Workbook section on pit lakes and for guiding technology development efforts concerning pit lake management at future, active, inactive, and abandoned mines. The committee first met on 17 November 2000; developed a draft mission statement, scope and schedule; and is presently soliciting additional members. The committee is considering linking some aspects of this effort with those of the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP). An annotated bibliography of references in refereed journal articles and conference proceedings has been developed and distributed to the committee membership for comments and additions. An additional document listing reports on pit lake related work including EIS's and EA's and relevant references from the EIS’s and EA’s. References for documents on pit lake water quality, quantity, limnology, modeling, etc. are included in the bibliography. This task has been drafted for Nevada pit lakes and the document has been distributed to the Pit Lake committee members representing Nevada. A draft pit lake classification document is in progress for current and future pit lakes in Nevada. The current membership of the Pit Lake Committee is as follows:

Devin Castendyk: Chair

Charles Bucknam, , John Chermak, Glenn Eurick, Joseph Harrington, Ron Hershey, Jim Jonas, Kim Hong, Kim Lapakko, Virginia McLemore, Andrew Nicholson, Lisa Shevenell, Dennis Turner, Dirk van Zyl, Ted Eary
