- In 2002-2003, more than 50% of the incoming freshmen received scholarships to Mackay. In addition, about 40% of full-time undergraduates are receiving scholarship awards. The Mackay scholarship dollars totaled $168,000 for this year.
- Mackay has close ties to industries, with a program to provide summer jobs/internships and 98% of our recent graduates have had job offers upon graduation.
- Mackay has 21st century laboratories offering undergraduate students access to participate in state-of-the-art research as well as the DeLaMare Engineering and Geosciences Library and a new Mining Life-Cycle Center.
- Mackay’s undergraduate engineering degrees are not available elsewhere in Nevada, and are excellent preparation for graduate study in careers such as law, medicine and business.
- The Mackay Hydrogeology program is rated by the US News & World Report as 8th in the US, better than Princeton and tied with MIT.
- The Mining Engineering Department has created a Quarry Option to satisfy the demand for mining engineers by the aggregate and construction materials industry, primarily in California. In addition, California residents entering the program can receive a discounted tuition through WUE.
- The John Mackay Club’s (a student organization) Mining Team, has been the Champion in the International Mining Competition 2 times in the last 5 years.
