University of Nevada School of Medicine names Miriam Bar-on, M.D., Associate Dean, Graduate Medical Education

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: - Miriam Elizabeth Bar-on, M.D., has been named as Associate Dean in charge of Graduate Medical Education at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Bar-on will be responsible for the educational, fiscal, and administrative health of the school’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) enterprise. In her new role, she will manage the school’s residency programs, GME operations and maintaining the requirements of the Accreditation council for GME accreditation.

“Dr. Bar-on brings a very impressive medical education and scholarly background to the position. In her career, she has enjoyed a number of key medical and academic appointments as well as distinguished work in scholarly and research activities. She has provided outstanding leadership at Loyola University School of Medicine in a variety of positions and we are delighted she will be bringing her professional expertise to our program”, noted James Lenhart, Vice-Dean.

Dr. Bar-on currently serves as medical co-director, child advocacy program and director of resident and student advocacy rotation of Chicago’s Loyola University School of Medicine. Previously, she was director of the pediatric residency program at the school A native of Englewood, New Jersey, she received her B.S. from the University of Michigan and earned her M.D. from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. She did her residency training at the State University of New York, Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Dr. Bar-on holds membership in a number of scientific and professional societies, including fellowship in the American Academy of Pediatrics; Ambulatory Pediatric Association; Association of Pediatric Program Directors; and the Association of American Medical Colleges.

She served on the editorial boards of both the American Academy of Pediatrics – AAP News and the Journal of General Pediatrics: Ambulatory Child Health. Dr. Bar-on has significant experience as an abstract reviewer and grants investigator and is the author of scores of referred papers, abstracts, books, monographs and book chapters.
