The Mathematics Center at UNR offers mathematics and statistics walk-in tutoring for students enrolled in the following courses:

MATH 096/120/126/127/128/176/181/182/283/285  and STAT 152/352

Our computer lab with 30 stations is equipped to help to students with traditional questions as well as online homework.   There is no limit on how many times students can visit us during the semester or how long a student can stay in the Math Center.

  • A student ID (WolfCard) is required every visit.   Knowing your R-number will not be accepted as a substitute.
  • Tutoring is available during our regular hours of operation
  • Every semester students are required to sign our student polices form (listed below).

Student Policies:

  1. No cell phone use is allowed at any time.  Turn your ringer off when you enter the Math Center.  No texting.  If you use your cell phone in any way you will be asked to leave.

  2. No food or drink is allowed any time –no exceptions.

  3. Your student ID is required every time you visit the Math Center.  Make sure that you are logged in AND logged out every visit.

  4. Avoid loud conversations.  If you are disturbing other students and/or tutors you will be asked to leave.

  5. It is a violation of UNR’s Academic Standards Policy to ask Math Center tutors/staff to do your homework for you or check your homework problems. Tutors will report such violations.

  6. The Math Center is not a substitute for missed classes. We will not attempt to “teach” missed course material.

  7. You must come prepared with course materials such as: texts, notes and calculators.

  8. You are responsible for planning and providing adequate time to receive tutoring from the Math Center. Schedule your time in the Math Center well in advance of your assignment's deadline.

  9. Not all Math Center tutors are able to assist you with all levels of math courses taught at UNR.  Help in areas such as multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, statistics or differential equations may be available on a limited basis.

  10. Be polite and respectful to tutors/staff and other students at all times.

Student Expectations:

  1. The Math Center tutors will be knowledgeable of UNR’s mathematics course material.

  2. If a tutor is unable to answer your questions he/she will work to find a staff member who can in a timely manner.

  3. The Math Center tutors/staff will be polite, respectful and patient at all times.

  4. The Math Center tutors/staff will be attentive to you from the moment you enter the Center.

  5. It is the goal of the Math Center to help you understand the concepts in your math class. Though the tutors will not do homework for you, they will ask you to find a similar problem in your book and they will work that problem (and others, if necessary) thoroughly until you have gained insight into the concepts covered in your homework.
