Scholarships for Students in Mathematics Each year, the UNR Math/Stat Department awards the following scholarships to deserving students: For Undergraduate Students

  • GUY BENHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN MATHEMATICS Amount: $600 for one academic year. Award Criteria: Eligible candidates are selected by the Math/Stat Department. Eligible candidates must a) be math majors, b) be of sophomore standing or higher. Recipients must earn a minimum of 24 UNR credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and maintain full-time enrollment each semester. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for the duration of the award. A change in major will result in the loss of this scholarship. The scholarship is not renewable.

  • M. W. BUTLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN MATHEMATICS: Amount: $254 for one academic year. Award Criteria: Eligible candidates are selected by the Math/Stat Department. Eligible candidates must a) be math majors, b) be of sophomore standing or higher, c) have completed math courses through calculus, and d) not be recipient of any other scholarships. Recipients must earn a minimum of 24 University credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and maintain full-time enrollment each semester. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for the duration of the award. A change in major will result in the loss of this scholarship. The scholarship is not renewable.

  • MARY TALBOT SCHOLARSHIP IN MATHEMATICS: Amount: $500 for one academic year. Award Criteria: Eligible candidates are selected by the Math/Stat Department. Eligible candidates must a) be of upright moral character, b) be of financial need, c) manifest outstanding scholarship in mathematics for at least one year, and d) be of sophomore standing or above. Preference is to be given to mathematics majors. Recipients must earn a minimum of 24 University credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and maintain full-time enrollment each semester. Recipients must also maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative UNR GPA for the duration of the award. A change in major will result in the loss of this scholarship. The scholarship is not renewable.

  • WEIHE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN MATHEMATICS: Amount: $1,740 for one academic year Award Criteria: Eligible candidates are selected by the Math/Stat Department. Eligible candidates must be of junior or senior status and be the most academically successful student in the department. Recipients must earn a minimum of 24 credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and maintain full-time enrollment each semester. Recipients must also maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative UNR GPA for the duration of the award. A change in major will result in the loss of this scholarship. The scholarship is not renewable.

For Graduate Students

  • JERRY AND BETTY WILSON SCHOLARSHIP (MATHEMATICS): Amount: Two scholarships, each for $4000 per academic year. Award Criteria: Eligible candidates are selected by the Math/Stat Department. Eligible candidates must be graduate students, native born citizens of the USA, and in good academic standing. Recipients must earn a minimum of 24 credits per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and maintain full-time enrollment each semester. Recipients must also maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative UNR GPA for the duration of the award. A change in major will result in the loss of this scholarship. The scholarship is not renewable.
