Careers & Internships
For those who may want to pursue non-academic employment in industry, engineering, and the sciences, we have an applied option for both our B.S. and M.S. degrees. Whether or not the career directly applies the knowledge gained in the curriculum, the experience in problem solving, logical thinking, and managing complex tasks will enhance the student's abilities in any work setting. There is a wealth of career information available at the following sites:
- 2008 Career Development Guide – a free resource for students (and all).
- This site contains lists of various math majors in different colleges and the jobs they have found
- The American Mathematical Society
- The Mathematical Association of America
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (Has lots of information about mathematics careers, especially non-academic employment)
- Here's a survey of employment and job satisfaction among former UNR math majors
- Opportunities for summer research or study in mathematics
- Information about internships and job opportunities through UNR
- Actuarial jobs
- Job information primarily for those with a Ph.D. in math
