Goals

The following serve as goal statements for the UNR Comprehensive Master Plan.
The goals will be reviewed and refined throughout the planning process.

Reach Forward

Plan for change in support of the university's mission of teaching, research, and community service. Create an inspired vision for the campus with intrinsic flexibility to be response to future demands, needs, and opportunities.

Embrace Sustainable Practices

Encourage stewardship of the campus lands with sustainable practices in design, building, and the day-to-day use of the campus.

Encourage Positive Relationships with the Community

With open and inclusive communication, create a plan that values the community, encourages cultural and social diversity, achieves mutually beneficial relationships, and fosters academic outreach.

Foster a Collegial Atmosphere

The comprehensive plan should foster a vibrant and safe 24/7 campus life. Strategically locate uses to focus social and educational interaction. Expansion of residences to support undergraduate and graduate students will be a significant element in supporting this goal.

Build Upon the Historic Character of the Campus

Draw upon the historic character of the campus to inspire and inform the design of new facilities.

Engage the City of Reno

Encourage relationships with the City of Reno that serve the goals and needs of both the City and the university.

Encourage Transit and Pedestrian Users

Plan the campus's circulation and land uses for efficient use of resources. Encourage the use of transit to access the campus. Create a pedestrian-friendly campus via land use densities, land use relationships, and open space development.
