Science in the Elementary Schools

Course Description:
Materials, procedures, classical techniques in the teaching of science to children, K-8. Prerequisite: Admission to teacher education; one course in each area of life, earth and physical science.

Improvements to the Course:
Based upon a recent chapter he had written regarding the lack of distance education opportunities in science education, John created an on-line version of his course CI 364: Science in Elementary Schools during his fellowship. The course is totally web-based with no on-site meetings between the instructor and students. The course captures and promotes an inquiry-based, constructivist learning environment with the student becoming both teacher and learner. John received assistance from Project Learning Links staff with the integration of streaming audio into his course.
