Dean  William Sparkman, Project Director

Bill has been a professor of educational leadership, chairman of a department of curriculum and instruction, and the associate dean of research at Texas Tech University. His role in Learning Links is to provide overall leadership. He is committed to the improvements in the Teacher Preparation Programs that would come about as a result of Learning Links. Dean Sparkman has the decision making power to assure the changes will occur and become institutionalized. Contact Bill at sparkman@unr.edu.


Jacque Ewing-Taylor, Project Coordinator

Jacque is the Project Coordinator for Project Learning Links and has taught technology-heavy courses at the University of Nevada for the past seven years. She has conducted numerous faculty development workshops for those interested in incorporating technology into their courses and operated a web design consulting business for five years. She brings extensive management experience to the project and one of her goals is to use her communications background to help demystify and simplify technology for faculty and students. Dr. Christine Cheney, Teacher Preparation Liaison

Chris is Professor of Special Education and co-author of Project Learning Links. She has been at the University of Nevada since 1984 and is currently the coordinator of the Special Education Program. Chris received her bachelor's degree (psychology) and master's degree (special education) from The College of William and Mary in Virginia. She received her doctorate in special education with an area of concentration in instructional systems technology from Indiana University. Her goals for the use of technology in her courses are (1) to use technology more effectively to teach her students by having class web sites, using presentation software in creative ways, and developing tutorials; (2) to integrate the use of instructional and assistive technology into the course experiences to further her students' understanding of the role technology can play in teaching students who have disabilities. Dr. LaMont Johnson, Technology Program Liaison

LaMont is a co-author of Project Learning Links and a pioneer in the field of information technology in education. He has written widely in the area of learning technology and is the founding editor of the national, refereed journal, Computers in the Schools. He teaches courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level on using information technology to change the teaching and learning process. Additionally, LaMont works extensively with rural school districts in Nevada. He and a colleague recently spent two years conducting over 100 workshops across the state on how to use the Internet in the classroom. Contact LaMont at ljohnson@unr.edu.


Mary Johnson, Accounting Specialist

Mary has been managing the fiscal aspects of UNR grants since 1991 through the Research & Educational Planning Center. She has a bachelor's degree in general studies, with an emphasis in accounting. She was responsible for developing the budget for Project Learning Links and currently manages all fiscal aspects of this PT3 grant as well as provides programmatic support. She also serves as managing editor of an international journal, Computers in the Schools. Contact Mary at mlj@unr.edu.


Pam Cantrell, Project Evaluator

Pam is an assistant professor of Elementary Science and Mathematics Curriculum & Instruction and is currently the director of the Raggio Science, Mathematics & Technology Center within the College of Education. She holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University, a masters degree in secondary science education from Southern Utah University and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction (science education) from the University of Wyoming. Pam works extensively with outreach and professional development programs related to STEM (science, mathematics, engineering, and technology) education. Contact Pam at pamcan@unr.edu.


  Dr.  William Doherty, Technical Content Advisor

Bill is currently in charge of the Technology and Network program at Truckee Meadows Community College. He has extensive background in the development and maintenance of computer hardware and software. Bill has been instrumental in the re-design of an introductory teacher education course to include instruction in trouble-shooting, emergency repair, and basic maintenance of computer networks. He has arranged for the equipping of a 25-station computer lab that will be used on a half-time basis by the preservice teachers served by Learning Links. Contact Bill at doherty@scs.unr.edu


Ken Gibson , UNR Faculty

Ken is a faculty member of the College of Education at UNR and works in the Research and Educational Planning Center. He is the current webmaster for this website, the Central Nevada Educational Technology Consortium's website and the Center for Learning and Literacy's website. In additiuon, Ken plans and conducts the Faculty Proessional Development seminars within Project learning Links
