ALTAR EXHIBITION AND INSTALLATION

Joe Crowley Student Union, Ballroom C

The Latino Research Center is proud to invite you to participate in an exhibition installment for the Day of the Dead.  Altars made by community members, students, and Campus organizations will be displayed at the Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU), Ballroom C and we welcome you to build your own.
An altar honors those that have passed away through offerings of food and presentations of favorite items of the deceased.

DEADLINES:
Please let us know as soon as possible if you interested in setting up an altar so we can accommodate space to your needs.
Space requests:        The last day to request a space in the exhibition is Thursday, October 18th. Please call the UNR Latino Research Center at (775) 784-4010 or E-mail us at latinocenter@unr.edu.

Exhibition dates:            Saturday, October 20th through Friday November 2nd (only select altars will be chosen to be displayed after October 29th)
Celebration date:           Saturday, October 20th.

ALTAR GUIDELINES:
Installations will be set up in the JCSU, Ballroom C at 1:00 PM. Tables will be provided to those who have requested space.
Altars will have 3 levels: floor, table, and wall (to build a wall you will need to provide a backboard or support since we are not allowed to affix items to the Rotunda walls). If you wish to add more levels you will need to bring the necessary platforms and other supplies.
Make sure to fasten or secure valuable or cherished items so they are not easily damaged or lost.  
Food must be wrapped or packaged for sanitary purposes.
Altars can be made personally or with the help of others; however, collaboration is highly encouraged!
We emphasize creativity, and if you choose to, a one page biography, poem or other text can be put on display to describe the person being honored.
Make sure to give us the name(s) of the person(s) you are honoring, and the names of the organization, group, or individual that took part in the construction of the altar.

El Centro de Investigación Latino (Latino Research Center) de la Universidad de Nevada Reno se enorgullece de invitarles a participar en una exposición para celebrar el Día de los Muertos. Se exhibirán altares hechos por miembros de la comunidad, estudiantes, y organizaciones universitarias en el Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU), Ballroom C. También se exhibirán altares personales.

Que es un altar?

Un altar es una estructura que honra a los muertos con ofrendas de comida o cosas favoritas de algún ser querido ya fallecido.

Fechas Limite:

Por favor háganos saber si usted desea hacer un altar para poder acomodar un espacio a sus necesidades.

Pedidos de espacios:                    El último día para pedir un espacio para la exposición es jueves, el 18 de octubre. Por favor llame al UNR Latino Research Center en (775) 784-4010 o por E-mail en latinocenter@unr.edu.
Datos de Exposición:                     Sábado, el 20 de octubre hasta el día viernes 2 de noviembre. (Solo los altares seleccionados se expondrán después del 20 de octubre)

Dato de la Celebración:               Sábado, el 20 de octubre

Guía para los altares:

La instalación de los altares se hará en la rotonda del JCSU, Ballroom C a la 1:00 PM. Se proveerán mesas a la gente que haya pedido un espacio.

Los altares serán de varios niveles: piso, mesa, y pared (usted necesita traer una tabla o soporte  para construir una pared porque no está permitido adherir cosas a las paredes de la rotonda).  Para crear los diferentes  niveles, necesitara traer las plataformas y otras provisiones.

Asegure todos los objetos que posean algún valor para evitar perdidas o daños.
Los alimentos deben estar envueltos o empacados por razones de salubridad.

Se puede hacer altares solo o con la ayuda de amigos y/o familiares. Animamos a todos a trabajar en equipo y a promover la  colaboración!

Enfatizamos la creatividad, y si prefiere puede hacer una biografía, poema, u otro texto solo de una pagina para describir la persona a quien se honra.

Asegúrese de darnos los nombres de la(s) persona(s) que se honra(n), y los nombre del organización, grupo, o persona(s) que construyeron el altar.
