Options for Students Planning to Get a Head Start on Postsecondary Education:
Tech Prep and Tech Prep for Dual Credit - An opportunity for students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. This program is intended primarily for occupational students in grades 11, 12, 13, and 14. Classes are offered at the high school, Glenn Hare Occupational Center, or magnet high school locations and are taught by high school faculty or team taught with TMCC faculty. High School students (juniors and seniors) who complete articulated high school occupational courses may be able to earn TMCC credit if they successfully complete the Tech Prep course with a "B" or better. To earn credit, you must register at TMCC upon completion of the high school course.

Advanced Placement - This program is sponsored by the College Board and available to juniors and seniors. Advanced placement classes are college-level courses offered to high school students at their high school by their own high school teachers. Advanced Placement courses satisfy high school requirements and can be applied to college if the exams (given in May at your high school) is passes at an approved level. Register for Advanced Placement courses during regular high school preregistration each spring.

Early College - The Early College program is a joint effort of the Washoe County School District and the University of Nevada, Reno. It provides seniors with the opportunity to take UNR classes while still in high school. To participate, students must be classified as seniors, taking four high school classes, graduating on time, and taking at least two Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes during the senior year. Approval from the high school counselor and assistant principal of curriculum is required. All lower division courses (numbered 100-200) are open to Early College participants, as long as course prerequisites are met. Early College participants can take up to six UNR credits per semester. Students are responsible for transportation to the UNR campus.

Distance Education - "Telecourses" are offered by Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada, Reno through interactive television hook-up at home high schools and through cable television to your home by the Public Broadcasting System. These classes are available to high school juniors and seniors and are taught by TMCC and UNR professors. Some courses are available for Duel Credit enrollment.

TMCC High School - A Washoe County School District high school on the Truckee Meadows Community College campus that allows students to take three required high school classes and up to three college courses each semester and get both high school and college credits. High school classes meet in the afternoon, leaving the morning and evening hours open for Dual Credit courses to be used as electives toward high school graduation and college credit.
