Alternative Opportunities for H.S. Students

Educational Options for Washoe County School District Students:
Washoe High School - An alternative approach to instruction. A learning center in which a "generalist" approach to education with emphasis placed on fostering the relationship between the student and the teacher and opening the channels of communication to further the instructional process.

Cyesis - Provides pregnant students with an opportunity to continue their education during pregnancy and early infancy of their child.

Opportunity School - An alternative setting and structure for students who are not succeeding in a comprehensive high school or Washoe High School. The goal is to enhance academic achievement by emphasizing social skills development, conflict resolution techniques and career exploration opportunities.

Gifted and Talented Externship - A program that provides students an opportunity to explore a career or profession with an on-site experience and earn credit for their work and research.

. TMCC High School - A Washoe County School District High School on the Truckee Meadows Community College campus that allows students to take three required high school classes and up to three college courses each semester and get both high school and college credits. (See more information below.)

. S.K.I.L.L. Internship Program - Provides an opportunity for students to learn job skills through a district offered course and work in a paid internship setting while earning high school credit.

Alternative Education - An alternative educational program that allows students to stay in their home high school. The program is most effective with sophomores and juniors who need a different approach to their academic subjects and have made a commitment to improving their school situation.
