Nevada Legislative Committee
on the Death Penalty

The State of Nevada Legislative Commission has formed a Subcommittee to Study the Death Penalty and Related DNA Testing.  The subcommittee, which is chaired by Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, held its first meeting on October 29, 2001, and has scheduled five more meetings through June 2002.  The committee agenda includes death penalty issues such as racial, socioeconomic, and other bias; costs/deterrence/appeals process; DNA evidence; and the appropriateness of the death penalty for juvenile, elderly, or mentally retarded defendants.  Sessions are open to the public.  For information contact Nicolas C. Anthony, Senior Research Analyst, at (775) 684-6825.
