| A Rephotographic Project |
|
| Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy! |

Field Notes
On this trek, Jean noticed that the wooden Forest Service sign in Peter's photo has been replaced by a large granite boulder that includes Nevada State Historical Marker 261. To get the right angle, Jean stood on top of one of the wooden pillars that mark the parking lot of the Spooner Summit Trailhead. |

History
| Spooner Summit was recognized when the route became well-used during the timber era of the Comstock in Virginia City. Now, hiking paths and a memorial sign give the mountain summit a new look and a new purpose. |
