Tahoe Transitions
A Rephotographic Project
Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy!

Field Notes
Jean and Katie noticed that in Peter's picture, there was an SUV parked near the Kings building, so Jean parked her car in the same spot to get a good morph. Jean darted in and out of traffic to get a good vantage point, and eventually got a stellar photo!
History
Kings Beach is a very community-oriented, unincorporated locale in the north shore. A large Hispanic population exists here, and is part of a vibrant, arts-oriented active community. Each summer during nice weather, a large craft and art fair graces the walkways near Kings Beach State Recreation Area, where local artists show off their talent and everyone enjoys the sun and sand.
