A Rephotographic Project
|
Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy!

Field Notes
Jean wandered down the new Tahoe City Lakeside Trail to get a good view of Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City. Although the buildings beside the bridge has changed, Jean found the same pipe sticking out of the ground that is visible in Peter's photo. It was an a-ha moment!

History
This spot takes its name not for a lovely femme named Fanny but for all the fannies that you see when you drive over the bridge. The dam at this spot controls the water flow of the only outlet from Lake Tahoe. Around the area, rafting companies have set up shop in the summer to take advantage ofthe outflow from the dam when winter water is let slide down the Truckee River.
