Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy!

Field Notes
Jean and Katie met with entourage in tow early Saturday morning in Tahoe City. It was a group outing, showing Jean's coworker and Katie's husband the glorious park that now exists at Commons Beach Park. Jean trampled the sagebrush by the fence and Katie held Jean's coffee, and the picture turned out absolutely spot on! The same clump of trees in Peter's image remain standing, so this location is particularly stunning!

History
Until very recently, Commons Beach was a sparsely outfitted beach for locals to hang out at. The beach is a bit rocky for swimming, but the view from the park is stunning as you can see all of Tahoe across the way. The park was recently redone to include memorial spots, benches and lawn, as well as several fire pits and a few different play areas for the little ones. The annual 4th of July firework display for the north shore is held here too!
