Tahoe Transitions
A Rephotographic Project
Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy!

Field Notes
Oh good God! Jean tried not to get killed by oncoming traffic and loose, gravely terrain. Rather than hiking down from above, she clambered up a seriously vertical slope to a good spot. She found it curious that the old cement guardrails had been covered in fake rock facade to try and look rustic.
History
The access through Cave Rock has changed many times, from the historic dirt road around the outcropping to the first tunnel blasted through the rock. Now there are two tunnels, one for each direction of traffic. Cyclists can activate a warning signal that flashes to let drivers know that they need to share the road.
