Jean Dixon, professional photographer, and Katie Palani, professional student, undertook this project to show how the landscapes and urbanscapes of the Tahoe Basin have changed over the years. Many thanks to the UNR Special Collections department for furnishing all of the historic photos, and to Peter Goin for letting us use his Tahoe images shot in the early 1990s. Enjoy!

Field Notes
Sunday morning, Jean made the trek up to Tahoe to photograph the new entryway that had recently been decked out for Christmas. The parking lot was not crowded, even though it was Thanksgiving weekend, normally a busy tourist time at the lake.

History
The CalNeva Lodge holds a special place in the hearts of locals. Built in 1926, it burned to the ground in 1937, and was speedily rebuilt by Norm Biltz, one of many owners including Frank Sinatra. The stateline runs right through the bottom of the lodge's pool, and Native American events have been held in the parking lot. CalNeva is home to a summer arts festival, and the rooms have great views of the lake.
