Why I teach:

I love teaching. There's no doubt about that. I think I have the best job in America.
I do what I want to do—teaching, writing and researching—and I get paid well for that by the state of Nevada. Nobody else has that much luck.

My American heroes

(Note: These are in no particular order.)

• Franklin D. Roosevelt

• Louis Brandeis

• Eugene Debs

• Oliver Wendell Holmes

• William O. Douglas

• Emma Goldman

• Henry David Thoreau
