A UNR-Guest account does not provide the same access as a Guest NetID.
The UNR-Guest wireless signal is for people that are not affiliated with the University, but would like to access the internet from their own wireless device (such as a laptop or cellphone). This wireless signal allows access to all websites, however it does not provide access to the University's online journals, books and databases.
The number of people, and the length of time the account is to last, determines the method by which the account should be requested. Once you have received an account, accessing the network is simple.
Accounts for a single day, for a single person, can be created by connecting to the UNR-Guest signal and following the instructions. Please note, the guest must have a cell phone capable of receiving SMS messages, or the ability to access their e-mail without needing to connect to a wifi signal.
If there are any issues using the self-service system, then please contact IT Support to have the account created remotely.
Guest wireless accounts required for more than one day must be requested by a faculty or staff member. There must be a legitimate reason for having a multi-day account, such as for a conference or a contract worker. Please contact IT Support to request a multi-day account. These requests are then sent to IT management for approval before they are created. As a result, we ask that multiple-day accounts are requested in advance (please note, however, that the account will not usually be created until the day before it becomes active).
Guest wireless accounts to be used by multiple people must be approved by a Dean/ Director/ Dept. Head or IT Management before they can be created. Please complete an Guest Wireless Application form with details about the event:
Since this type of request goes through an approval process, we ask that you submit this request in advance, so that we are able to create the account in time. Usually, the account will be created the day before the event.
Usually, one account is created. This account can be used by multiple people.
If you have any questions about the UNR-Guest wireless network, please don't hesitate to contact us.
