Lync: Audio/Visual Conferencing - Mac

It is possible to convert your text-based instant message into an audio/video conference (assuming you have a webcam and microphone installed on your computer).

Initial Setup

Before you take part in a audio/video conference, it is a good idea to configure you settings to make sure you webcam and microphone are correctly adjusted.

  1. From the main menu bar select Lync then Preferences....Lync Preferences

Audio Setup

  1. Select Audio from the list of options.Audio
  2. Go through the settings to ensure that the correct microphone and speakers are selected. The gauges should help you to decide whether everything is configured correctly.Audio Settings

Your Mac should automatically configure its built-in webcam. Therefore, there is no option in the "Preferences" dialog to do any further configuration.

When completed, close the "Preferences" window.

Start an Audio/Video Conference

  1. With an Instant Message conversation window open, click on the Camera icon.Camera Icon in IM
  2. The system will act like a Video Phone. The recipient will receive a ringing message on their computer which they can choose to answer.

Alternative Method

  1. From your Contacts List, select the person you would like to video conference.
  2. Click on the Camera icon at the bottom of the main Lync window.Camera Icon on Main Lync
  3. The system will act like a Video Phone. The recipient will receive a ringing message on their computer which they can choose to answer.
