A range of cultural events take place in Reno each year, and the University plays a role in many of these, such as month-long summer arts festival, Artown, and the University’s own Jazz Festival, which is the largest event of its kind on the West Coast. It's not only that: faculty and students alike are rooted deeply into the cultural scene of Reno.
A majority of the seats in the Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras are filled by music department faculty, and student events, featured here on campus, are open to the public. The School of the Arts also offers other cultural and artistic outlets, such as the Performing Arts Series and student and faculty gallery exhibits on campus and throughout northern Nevada.
Over the course of the year, University students and faculty account for more than 300 arts and cultural performances and presentations. The University’s arts and cultural event efforts also engages more than 25,000 children in the area each year. With theatre, art, and music programs, the variety of different shows that the University has to offer to the community is nearly endless.
