Escort Services
The university provides a free on-campus escort service for students, faculty, and staff. Campus Safety Officers (CSO's) will
provide transportation or walk with you to a residence hall, between campus buildings, or to your vehicle. Campus Escort Service
hours are 6:00pm to 1:00am Sunday through Thursday. To reach the Campus Escort Service, call 742 - 6808.

Health and Medical
Unlike most countries, the United States has no national health care program. Consequently, medical costs are extremely high. It
is very important that students, academic staff, and their dependents, be adequately covered by a health insurance plan. At the
University of Nevada, Reno, international students are required to pay the university Student Health Center fee and purchase
the international student insurance.

Student Heath Center
The Student Health Center offers quality health care at a reasonable cost for student at the university. If you get sick or
injured, the staff of professional physicians are ready to help you. They also offer special health services for men and women,
sports medicine for athletes, dermatology services, nutrition and mental health counseling, x-rays, immunization and allergy
shots, and many special types of lab work. The Health Center also provides some prescription medications, orthopedic casting,
minor surgery, physical examinations, and many other services at cost or reduce rates. The Health Fee is assessed to
international student each semester. You can utilize the Health Center by making an appointment at 784- 6598 or by just walking
in. The Student Heath Center is located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
Please note that immunizations are required for all students attending the IELC and the University. Please bring a copy of your
most current immunization record to prevent duplication of immunizations upon arrival.

Student Insurance
The university provides supplementary accident and health insurance for students, available by semester or on an annual basis.
This insurance provides 24 hour coverage, whether you are at school or away from school. Once you pay the Student Health Center
fee, you are eligible to purchase the insurance policy. Spouses and dependents of eligible students may also purchase
insurance. International students are required to purchase this insurance in addition to paying the Student Health Center fee.
Please note the health center fee must be paid before you may be enrolled in the student insurance.

What to Do When You Get Sick
If you get sick or hurt between 8:00am and 5:00pm, you should go directly to the Health Center. If it is after 5:00pm or a
weekend ( Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday) you should call the Student Health Center at 784- 6598. You will reach the answering
service. The answering services will then ask a doctor to call you. The doctor will tell you what to do by phone. If medical
care is necessary after hours, then this care provided at the student's expense. If you need help in understanding any medical
problem, see your advisor, IELC instructor, or IELC staff person who can cal the Student Health Center.

Student organizations and clubs
There are more than 100 organizations officially recognized by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada. Taking part
in student organizations or clubs will not only be fun but will help you to improve your English skills. Intramural Sports; are
among the most popular activities on campus. You can join en existing team, start your own team, or participate in an individual
sport. Team sports; are flag football, volleyball, basketball, tube water polo, indoor soccer, and softball.
