  Mandatory Requirement  
  The Environmental Sciences program is designed to allow the student an opportunity to design a curriculum to meet his or her disciplinary interests and professional aspirations. All requirements of the Environmental Sciences program are based upon the requirements for graduate study specified by the University of Nevada, Reno General Catalog.
 
  The Application Process
 
  • The Master's program requires an undergraduate GPA of 3.00
  • The Ph.D. program requires a minimum GPA of 3.00
  • Application to the Graduate School
  • GRE greater than 1000 (verbal + quantitative)
  • TOEFL score exceeding 600 for international students
  • Transcripts
  • (Please send all above information to Graduate School)
  •  

  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Personal letter of intent addressed to the Director of the program
    • Describe academic goals, choice of disciplinary track, and research interests 
  • Documentation from an Environmental Sciences faculty member who agrees to be a research advisor
    • This documentation is needed prior to admission but may be submitted after application materials are sent.
  • (Please send the letters of recommendation and letter of intent to Dr. Mark J. Walker)

    Environmental Sciences Application Checklists:

  • Graduate School Application

  • Complete an Application for Graduate School Admission on line.  Note: the Graduate School will accept ONLY electronic submissions. 
  • Transcripts

  • Include an official copy of transcripts from all colleges attended to Admissions & Records Office with your submission
     
  • GRE Scores

  • Include an official copy of GRE scores to Admissions & Records Office
     
  • Letters of Recommendation

  • Request that your references send letters of recommendation directly to the Environmental Sciences Program Office
  • Three letters of recommendation are required 
  • Letters should be from professors, employers, or other relevant persons 
  • Addressed to the Director, Dr. Mark J. Walker 

  • Personal Letter of Interest

  • Include a letter of interest with your application.  The letter should be addressed to Dr. Mark J. Walker and should describe your academic goals, choice of disciplinary track, and specific research interests.

  • Letter from Research Advisor

  • Please include documentation or a letter from an Environmental Sciences faculty member who agrees to be your research advisor 
  • Ask the advisor to send this letter directly to the Environmental Sciences Program Office

  Finding a Research Advisor
 
During the admissions process, each prospective student must be matched with an Environmental Sciences faculty advisor. to begin this process, students are encouraged to decide which disciplinary track they would like to pursue within the Environmental Sciences program and to call upon the leader of that track. Track leaders will provide students with assistance in locating an advisor.
 
  Fellowship/Scholar Information
 
Fellowships in the Environmental Sciences Program are available from a number of faculty, or a limited number are available through the Program. Students are encouraged to inquire with their Track Leaders and prospective faculty advisors during the application process. Individual faculty members have outside research grants which provide funding opportunities for students.
