New Hire Process
Faculty will receive their new hire documents with their offer letter. These documents should be returned with the signed copy of the offer letter. At this time, a copy of transcripts should be requested so that they will be received no later than 30 days after your start date.
Classified staff will complete their new hire documents with their department on their first day of employment (or prior).

This site is a resource for information that will help you consider an offer, navigate your transition to joining the university and provide information to assist your early weeks on campus.
Payday Schedule
The University of Nevada maintains two payday schedules, one for classified employees and one faculty employees.
Classified employees and casual labor employees are paid semi-monthly on the 10th and the 25th of each month. If the 10th or the 25th falls on a weekend or a holiday, payday will be on Friday or the working day before the holiday.
Faculty employees, Postdoctoral Fellows and Letter of Appointment employees are paid monthly, on the last working day of the month. Weekends and holiday are not considered work days.

Direct Deposit
Direct Deposit is a program in which your pay is automatically deposited into your checking or savings account. With direct deposit, your money is in your account on payday.
To sign up for direct deposit please print and complete the Direct Deposit Authorization form. If you want your check deposited into a checking account, attach a voided personal check. For deposits into a savings account, please make sure to provide the financial institution’s routing number and your account number.
Return the completed form and the attachments to the Payroll Department Ross Hall, Room 2 or put the form in the internal mail to MS0122
Email Account
An email account will be established for you once your department has submitted a New Employee Notification Form. The following link will provide you with more information the email system at UNR http://www.it.unr.edu/email/access.asp
Employee ID & NetID
IMPORTANT. You must be in the University's information system before you can use online services, or get your UNR ID card. Your supervisor or departmental secretary can tell you whether you are in the system.
Once your new hire paperwork has been entered into the University's human resource information system, you will be assigned an Employee Identification Number (and PIN) and a NetID (and password).
Employee ID – A unique nine-digit number that is used as the primary identification number within the University’s system.
The University of Nevada, Reno is committed to protecting the personal information of its students, staff, and faculty and, where the use of such information is necessary, providing safeguards against identity theft. A unique nine-digit identification number is generated for each employee. This employee ID number replaces the use of the employee's Social Security number in most transactions.
NETID - Your NetID (with password) is your personal identification for using the University's online resources. A NetID is required of everyone who plans to use online computing services. (Note: Your NetID username and password are independent of any University email accounts.) Information on how to activate your NETID can be found here.
Employee Self Service
To access employee self service you will need your Employee Number and PIN (your PIN number is mailed to you when you set up in the human resource information system).
If you have forgotten/lost your Employee Number or PIN, you can request a new PIN online or call Human Resources at 784-6082.
The employee self service system allows you to view your job, employment, paycheck and W2 tax information. The system allows you to update your personal/home address and your office contact information in the online University Directory. You can also enter/update your direct deposit information online. Parking
Parking at the University of Nevada, Reno campus is strictly regulated and enforced. Please see the Parking Department website http://www.unr.edu/parking/index.html for information on parking permits, parking fees and alternative transportation options.
Benefits
Employees may choose between several insurance options, depending upon the part of the State in which you live. Depending on your needs you can enroll yourself, your legal spouse and your dependent children up to the age of 19 (24 if they are full-time students).
If you plan to add your spouse and/or dependent children to your insurance you will be required to provide a copy of your marriage certificate (to insure spouse) and birth certificates (to insure children) at the time of enrollment.
We strongly encourage all new employees to sign up for a New Hire Benefits Orientation at your earliest opportunity. At this session you will learn about the benefit programs offered to you and your eligible dependents. You will be provided with the enrollment materials for:
- Health Insurance (this includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, business travel accident and long term disability insurance)
- Mandatory Retirement Plans
- Voluntary Supplemental Savings Plans
- Voluntary Supplemental Insurance Plans
