COMPUTER TRAINING

All Classes require UNR NetID for computer access.

There will be a nominal $14.00 fee for the two half day classes. Each registrant will be sent a class confirmation form within one day of registration. The confirmation form must be returned within five (5) business days of registration and must include supervisors approval to attend the class. A department purchasing card number and expiration date must be included on the form.

We have updated our labs with the latest computers and the most current software.

The one day topical classes will not require a fee.

Computer Basics

 

Learn basic computer skills and feel more comfortable using your computer. You will learn computer concepts, hardware and software vocabulary, explore the Windows XP operating system, and how to manage files and folders.

Topics:

Duration: You will have two separate class sessions of 3 1/2 hours each, for a total of seven hours of training.

Excel 2007- Module 1

Microsoft Excel is a powerful spreadsheet program that allows you to make quick and accurate numerical calculations and helps you to make your data look sharp and professional. The uses for Excel are limitless: businesses use Excel for creating financial reports, scientists use Excel for statistical analysys, and families use Excel to help manage their investment portfolios.

For 2007, Excel has undergone a major redesign. If you've used Excel before, you'll still be familiar with much of the program's functionality, but you'll notice a completely new user interface and many new features that have been added to make using Excel more efficient.

This class will be held in two parts. Part A will be a three-session workshop targeted at an understanding of the first part of the Module 1 manual. Approximately two weeks later, Part B will be a two-session workshop designed to cover the rest of the material in the manual. This schedule was recommended by students attending the first sessions and allows students to practice skills before returning for more. At the end of both classes, a review exercise will challenge the students to complete a sample "real-life" task with their new skills.

PART A:

Fundamentals

Creating workbooks, formula overview, autofill, absolute/relative references

Editing a Worksheet

Cutting, copying & pasting cells, find/replace, comments

Formatting a Worksheet

Formatting Labels/Values, alignment, styles and themes, conditional formatting

Creating and Working with Charts

Creating/Editing charts, applying built-in chart layouts & styles, chart templates

Part B:

Managing Workbooks

Splitting/freezes workbook window, hiding/protecting worksheets & elements

Working with Page Layout and Printing

Creating headers and footers, margins, titles, gridlines

More Functions and Formulas

Inserting/editing functions, defining names, displaying/tracing formulas

Review Case Study

Short exercise to practice the skills introduced in the Module 1 course work.

  • Start Excel and use Excel menu system, toolbars and task panes.
  • Open and close a workbook
  • Create a worksheet and enter labels, values and formulas.
  • Adjust column widths, automatically fill a range, move and copy cell entries.
  • Automatically computer a row/column total
  • Insert and delete rows and columns, Adjust row height, realign cell entries and reset the font and number format of cell entries
  • Add borders and shading to a worksheet
  • Change the page setup and preview and print a worksheet
  • Use Excel functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN and COUNT)

OUTLOOK 2007 for Exchange Users!

(This is a same day 2 PART workshop, registrants will break for lunch.)
We'll cover basic and intermediate issues. We'll go over each of the main features in Outlook like the calendar, contacts, email, tasks, journal, and public folders. We'll learn the exciting collaborative features of Outlook/Exchange like how to:
Share your calendar and view other's calendars.
How to arrange meetings by viewing attendees calendars simultaneously to find mutually available times.
Assign tasks to others.
We'll learn how to use folders, like creating, deleting, renaming etc. Additionally we'll go over how to use rules to sort incoming mail. We'll go over SPAM and viruses. We will go over Outlook Web access also.

 

Microsoft Word 2007

This course introduces you to the new look of Microsoft Word 2007. All of your favorite tools from Word 2003 are still there just in slightly different places.
Topics to be covered include:
basic text editing and formatting techniques,
setting tab stops,using themes and styles.
Working with clip art and objects, creating and working with tables.
