Campus Tour

Advisement

Students should contact their major department or school as early as possible to arrange for an academic advisor and should meet with their advisors regularly, especially before registering for courses. Department phone numbers are listed in the Programs webpage and in the University Directory.

Academic Advising Holds

Incoming Freshman

All incoming freshman will have an Academic Advising Hold placed on their account prior to class registration.
In order for the Academic Advising Hold to be removed incoming freshman must complete Academic Advisement.
This advisement consists of attending a Wolf Pack Advising and Registration Session in Reno or Las Vegas.

Additionally, first semester freshman students will have a second Academic Advising Hold placed on their account prior to registration. Read “Freshman Entering their Second Semester” for more information.

Freshman Entering the Second Semester

All first semester freshman students will have a second Academic Advising Hold placed on their account prior to class registration for the second semester.
In order for the Academic Advising Hold to be removed students must have Academic Advisement.
This advisement consists of attending a Freshman Group Advising Session in their specific major (Community Health Sciences, Pre-Nursing, Pre-Social Work and Speech Pathology & Audiology).

When e-mailing please state your R#, Major, Contact information with 2 or 3 group choices at least 5 business days before group date.
Group size is limited and your 1st choice may be full when you RSVP.
After attending the Freshman Group Advising Session the Academic Advising Hold will be removed.
Log on to ePaws during Priority Registration Date & Time to register for classes.
It is the responsibility of the student to seek out their advisor and arrange for advisement, preferably prior to their priority registration date.

Admission Process

Application forms can be completed and submitted online. You can also download the form in a hard copy format and fax, mail, or hand-deliver the application to the Office for Admissions and Records. You will also need to submit your high school transcript (and follow up with a completed transcript after graduation), ACT or SAT scores (your best scores will be used for math and English placement), immunization records, and the application fee. Once your application, transcripts, placement exam scores, immunization recorsds and application fee are received, you will receive a response letter indicating your admission status.

Once accepted, you must go online to Nevada Overview and follow the steps for I am a New Freshman to complete the process. Please make sure to:
1. Activate you email account
2. Activate your Net ID

Newly admitted students will also receive welcome letters from other student services. All newly admitted freshman must contact an advisor. The easiest way to smooth your transition to the University is to attend Wolf Pack Prep in the spring to receive academic advising. As an incoming freshman, it is mandatory that you contact your advisor for assistance with class selection as you will be prohibited from actually registering for classes until you have done so either through Wolf Pack Prep or by phone, email or appointment. Some majors have regular group advising sessions. Please check the major website for this information. Students can find the suggested first-year courses in the University Course Catalog under the College section. (Researching suggested first-year courses is not a substitute for a meeting with an advisor.)

Placement and Pre-Requisites

Math and English are determined by either students' ACT, SAT, AP scores or classes previously completed. The ePAWS registration system will NOT allow students to register for any entry level Math or English class above authorized placement level. Students may take a Math placement exam to test into a higher level class. Please contact the Math Center for details. Students may also petition to go to a higher level of English by completing a placement essay or portfolio. Please contact the English Core Writing Program for details. Students who do not have the required ACT/SAT scores to register for ENG 101, MATH 120 or 124 can benefit from Freshman Start and meet the requirements for enrollment. Other classes with enforced prerequisites include Chemistry, Core Humanities and Capstone courses. EPAWS does not enforce prerequisites for all classes. Be aware that students may enroll and yet not meet the prerequisites, which may place some students at a disadvantage. Please check all classes for prerequisites through the class descriptions available online as you will be at a significant disadvantage to be in a class with other students that have met the requirements.

New Transfer Students

New transfer students will also need to complete the steps for freshmen listed above, but instead of providing a high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores, the University will need a copy of a current college transcript plus transcripts for any other colleges or universities previously attended. Once accepted, you must go online to Nevada Overview and follow the steps for I am a New Transfer Student to complete the process.

For questions regarding the transferability of classes, please contact the Transfer Center for additional information. Although a student will not be prohibited from registering, it is suggested that students meet with an advisor.

Tuition and Fees

Prospective students applying for admission to the University are charged a fee, which is not refundable nor applicable to any other fee. The fee is payable at the Cashier’s Office in the Fitzgerald Student Services Building or via the university admission website. Students who are exceptions to this fee policy include medical school students and students who are at least 62 years old. The University also participates in the WUE and WICHE programs. Note: All assessed fees are subject to change by the Board of Regents, and may vary according to, but not limited to, in-state tuition, out-of-state tuition, or the Good Neighbor Policy.
