The Division of Health Sciences’ faculty is comprised of individuals holding primary or secondary/joint appointments in the division. These individuals are committed to defining and executing the Division of Health Sciences’ educational, research and outreach missions. They play critical roles in training Division of Health Sciences students by directing and/or teaching courses, mentoring students or conducting research and outreach efforts in which our students are actively involved.

John Whitehill and Nora Constantino Five days a week, through a variety of workouts and drills designed to measure the participants’ increases in such measures as lactate threshold, strength, balance and agility, John Whitehill is hoping to gather data that will help the wider world of human performance better understand the benefits of water-based fitness regimes. Whitehill’s adviser is Nora Constantino, an associate professor in the School of Public Health. In nearly 13 years at Nevada, Constantino’s research agenda has ranged from physical activity across one’s lifespan, the effects of hormones on bone density and childhood obesity. Read More |

Bernadette Longo can feel the frustration of doctors in Hawaii, who have for years have treated young asthmatics and individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Doctors have long suspected that these problems were caused by the eruption of the islands’ numerous volcanoes, particularly for residents living downwind.
