Welcome to the College of Health
and Human Sciences. I invite you to explore our website to get an idea who
we are. On our website you will learn all of the opportunities in our College
for our students, faculty, staff, and community. You also will discover the
impact that our College has within the university, our state, and in our local
community.
We work hard to ensure that our students find
welcoming learning environments that not only educate them, but also challenge
them to be top notch graduate/professional students and/or practitioners in
health and human service fields. Our graduates are nurses in all types of in
patient and out patient settings. Our graduates are social workers working with
teenage mothers as well as with people young and old who face challenges of all
types. Our graduates are public health professionals working with high risk
behavior individuals to reduce and control HIV. Our graduates are leaders in
progressive child care and state of the art criminal justice programs. Our
faculty are accomplished researchers and practitioners in myriad health and
human services and pass on that knowledge to our students. Our faculty provide
exemplary drug and alcohol prevention and treatment throughtout the west. They
are involved in exercise and health; they are leaders in health care ethics and
policy; they provide cutting edge programs for children, adolescents, and
families of all kinds as well as our burgeoning aging population in Nevada.
During the summer and fall of 2005, our
faculty clarified the philosophical orientation and framework of our College
with the development of our Building a Health Society initiative. This
exciting initiative will direct our future College directions and will help us
to forge new collaborations with other Colleges on campus and with our
community and state. Building a Healthy Nevada will be unveiled and available
on this website in late March 2006.
