Program Overview: The Graduate Student Association promotes outstanding scholarship among graduate students by sponsoring the annual Poster/Paper/Presentation competition. Research may be presented in any of the six categories detailed below:
PRESENTATION A: Sciences/Mathematics/Engineering/Health Sciences
PRESENTATION B: Liberal Arts/Education/Business/Journalism
POSTER A: Sciences/Mathematics/Engineering/Health Sciences
POSTER B: Liberal Arts/Education/Business/Journalism
PAPER A: Sciences/Mathematics/Engineering/Health Sciences
PAPER B: Liberal Arts/Education/Business/Journalism
Each category will have a first place winner ($650), a second place winner ($500), and a third place winner ($300). If the entrants in any category are too few for legitimate competition, the GSA Awards Committee reserves the right to reduce the number of winners. Applicants may enter research in multiple categories, but no student may receive more than one award per year in the Poster/Paper/Presentation Competition. Applicants may submit no more than one entry per category. If you are judged among the top three in multiple categories, you will only receive the award for the category in which you placed highest. Poster/Paper/Presentation scholarships will be disbursed in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, in two equal payments.
Eligibility: Applicants for this award must be registered, full-time graduate students (9 credits or 6 credits with an assistantship) in good academic standing at the time of application. Members of the GSA Executive Council and Awards Committee, and persons involved with the judging process of any GSA awards, are ineligible to apply.
Judging Criteria: Entries in each category will be judged on style, clarity, professionalism, originality, relevance, contribution to the discipline, and overall presentation. Multiple-authored entries are acceptable only if the competitor is the lead author, and any award money will be given only to the lead author. Please keep in mind that all entries will be judged by faculty from areas outside your discipline.
Application Instructions: Please submit one copy of your application packet to the GSA Office (JCSU 302, Mail Stop 0057) by 5:00pm on Friday, March 8, 2013. Your application packet must include the following:
